During the Middle Ages, many of the best paintings were done in handmade books called illuminated manuscripts. The majority of these books were Christian devotionals called Books of Hours. These educational and inspirational programs use a combination of beautiful illuminated manuscript facsimilies and 35mm slides. They give good insight into everyday Medieval life and especially Christian devotional life of the period.
